Participants must:

• Be 25 years or older (as of January 1, 2024).
• Reside in Missouri.
• Be actively engaged in production agriculture or in an agribusiness occupation.
• Commit to attend all sessions.
• Pay the participant fee.
• Demonstrate leadership qualities and potential.
• Obtain written consent from employer (if applicable) to take off the required time.

The application process for ALOT is as follows:

• Applications are available beginning in mid-August and must be completed by the last business day of September.
• The first phase is a written application requiring detailed information to determine a candidate’s eligibility for the program.
• The second phase is a face-to-face interview with a selection committee, which take place in October.
• Applicants are notified of the selection outcome by the end of November.
• Up to 30 participants may be selected for each class. The average class size is 25.
• Individuals are selected for A LOT based upon demonstrated leadership potential, commitment to leadership and ability to represent a varied cross-section of the agricultural industry.

Yes, a $25.00 application fee is required to be submitted with an individual’s application.

Participants must commit to approximately 45 session days over an 18-month period. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.

Year One (February - October)

• Seven sessions, including Washington, D.C.
• In-state sessions are typically 2.5 – 3 days each.
• The Washington, D.C. session (typically in July) is 5 days.

Year Two (February - July)

• Four sessions, including the international trip.
• In-state sessions are typically 2.5 – 3 days each.
• The international trip (typically in June) is 10 – 14 days.

Participants will have additional travel time to and from each session location, which may amount to extra days depending on where a participant lives.

Tuition for the 18-month program is $5,000.

Participants are responsible for the expenses below:

• Incidental expenses.
• Miscellaneous expenses (tips, gifts, donations, personal items, etc.).
• Transportation to and from in-state sessions.
• Some incidental meal expenses.
• Parking and transportation to and from departure airports for the Washington D.C. and international trips.

Employer costs vary depending on how they support their employee during the program (e.g., employee time off and other expenses).
